Giada's Salami Chips

It is always nice to bring a plate to a party. It is friendly to arrive with a little something to offer when you are invited for dinner. It is even nicer if the recipe is easy to make. I want to share one of my favourite recipe that I like to make for an apéro or a cocktail dinner.

Beware! Those little crispy chips will be gone a few seconds after you put them on the table.

I found this recipe in Giada De Laurentiis's book Giada's family dinners. I really like her cooking style and her ideas related to cooking. Her recipes are quite simple to make and generally delicious. The salami chips recipe is a real winner. Also, you can prepare this recipe the day before your dinner party if you like.

The beauty of this simple recipe is that you need only 3 ingredients to complete your dish.

You will need to buy about 25 thin slices of Italian salami, sour cream and fresh basil. This will give you 25 chips. The sour cream and basil mixed together will bring freshness to this simple recipe.

How do you make it?

  • Turn on the oven to maximum broil.
  • Line 2 heavy large baking sheets with aluminum foil. Arrange the salami in a single layer over the baking sheets.
  • Put this in the oven and keep watching them. They have to become a light brown colour.
  • Repeat for the rest of salami slices.
  • Transfer the salami crisps to a paper towel-lined baking sheet to absorb the excess oil.
  • Chop the fresh basil, and mix it to the sour cream.  Pour it in a dipping bowl.
  • In a nice plate, put all the chips around the dipping bowl. You can also pour the sour cream mix onto the salami chips. However, the chips tend to lose their crisp if the sour cream stays too long on them. I prefer to put the sour cream mix in a cute little bowl so people can dip their salami chips.

Don't forget to watch your chips constantly in the oven. If you tend to forget things a lot, I suggest to put the timer on. Last year I was cooking 3 meals at the same time and I burned my chips.  They actually caught fire in the oven. The bad smell stayed in the house for about 3 weeks.

I wish you all a great Thanksgiving and have a great time with family and friends.
